Mission Statement

LCE is a place where we develop life-long learners who demonstrate Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Dependability, and Excellence (PRIDE) in their everyday lives. Our school motto is: Excellence Every Day! That’s the Lions Way!

Vision Statement

LCE prepares and empowers teachers through ongoing professional development while providing access to innovative resources to create a safe, caring and challenging learning environment for all students.

To what extent does it reflect your understanding of sustainable development?
I feel that the Mission statement is very open to many interpretations. People who follow sustainability as their motto espouse all the qualities mentioned in the mission statement. Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Dependability, and Excellence are qualities of sustainable livelihoods. Yet those who live unsustainable lifestyles can also persevere in what they do. They make developments that can support more people in order to reduce poverty without regard of having finite resources.I would like the mission statement that pronounces sustainability a a core business of and institution, particularly a TE institution.
The vision is also very silent about sustainability. There is nothing that calls people to sustainable lifestyles.

To what extent does it reflect the definition of sustainable development that reads “Sustainable Development is development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”? Do you think this is needed or not?
Both the mission and vision do not cause people, staff and students to want to do things in ways that will leave resources for future generations. I think it is crucial that this is well spelled out.

To what extent does your institution’s Vision and Mission statement reflect the objectives of ESD and the GAP?
Some objectives in the GAP can be met. For instance, transformative learning and building capabilities can be achieved. Yet it still remains a challenge if all teachers will be able to bring out the aspect of ESD in their teaching.

How would you reframe/restate your institution’s Vision and Mission statement to more substantively reflect SD and ESD (based on your understandings of these concepts and your context)?
