The Mission statement for Motshane Primary School.
It is friendly and caring school with the spirit of Ubuntu. We are committed to nature and celebrate the varied talents of all its learners and enable them to attain the best quality education, whilst preparing them to adapt to real life experiences in the broader world.
The Vision for Motshane Primary School
A school where learners are trained to become confident, resilient, lifelong achievers regardless of their socio-economic status.
• To what extent does it reflect your understanding of sustainable development?
It reflect the definition of sustainable development to some extent. This is because the mission statement takes into consideration the development of the lifelong learning skills of the leaners and its commitment of nurturing the varied talents while developing and cultivating the spirit of Ubuntu among the learners.
• To what extent does it reflect the definition of sustainable development that reads “Sustainable Development is development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”? do you think this is needed or not?
It reflects somehow since the pursuit of knowledge and skills and the broadening of the talents in the mission statement and vision shows that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations.
• To what extent does your institution’s vision and mission statement reflect the objectives of ESD and the GAP?
It does reflect the objectives of the ESD in the sense that it addresses the empowerment of the learners and their socio economic status. It also pay attention in developing the necessary skills to help them to fit the global world.
• How would you reframe/restate your institutions vision and mission statement to more substantively reflect SD and ESD (based on your understanding of these concepts and your context)?
This is how I would reframe the vision of my school to address the SD and ESD; To educate and empower learners to face challenges of the future at a local level and have a global impact whilst pursuing their own happiness and lifelong learning.
