SSATL-ESD Programme

It is important to step back and reflect on the shared vision and goals of the Sub-Saharan Africa Teacher Leadership for Education for Sustainable Development (SSATL-ESD) Project. As we work together, it remains essential to align our perspectives, recognise each partner’s role, and focus on how teacher leadership can drive transformative educational practices in our diverse contexts.

Another important dimension of the Training of Trainers’ Teacher Leaders Course is the preparation of lecturers and trainers to act as e-learning facilitators. Strengthening digital literacy skills is crucial for supporting the wider digitalisation process in Higher Education Institutions across Sub-Saharan Africa and Europe. By becoming confident in using online platforms such as LearnDash Learning Management System and integrating innovative tools like podcasts, narrated presentations, Padlet, and online questionnaires, trainers are not only able to deliver the Sustainability Starts with Teacher Leaders Course effectively but also contribute to institutional capacity-building for digital transformation.

This work directly supports the Erasmus+ priorities of:

  • Digitalisation, by equipping higher education systems with modern online learning capacities;
  • Inclusion, by making courses more accessible across diverse contexts; and
  • Innovation, by embedding ESD-aligned teaching and learning practices that respond to real-world challenges.

In addition, the course introduces participants to a range of AI-based and other digital tools to raise awareness of emerging technologies and their implications for teaching and learning in higher education. Examples include the use of AI for video, presentation, and content generation. The goal is not to promote these tools as perfect solutions but to critically examine their possibilities and limitations. While such technologies are often presented as convenient or efficient, their outputs are frequently imperfect and contextually limited. By engaging with these tools directly, you can develop a more critical and informed understanding of the role of AI in digital education. Therefore, recognising both its limited potential for innovation and the need for ethical and sustainable use within Higher Education Institutions.
