The first realization was the absence of ESD awareness as indicated by the WUC institutional vision & mission. Reviewing these two guiding documents/statements redirected us toward incorporating ESD in our programme structure.
More critical awareness will and came about as a result of merging our CPs and by engaging in a local depth inquiry, which yielded the foundational knowledge required to commit to a common goal: mitigating global warming through proper waste disposal. Fortunately, the indicators of bad practice and their direct impact were already there for all to see.
We are growing the pending physical installation of the donated colour-coded waste disposal cages will galvanize our efforts as visibility is what our students dearly want to see for added impetus.
I have just one point to emphasize to colleagues. Our student teachers are tired of hearing our beautiful theories for positive change. What remains now is for us to be the change we want to see. Actions speak much louder than our pronouncements!
